Lost Car Keys

No working key at all? New keys are cut and programmed at the car, and the lost ones are removed from its memory so they no longer open or start it.
  • Fully insured
  • IMI Master Auto Locksmith
  • IMI CANBUS immobiliser fitting
  • Approved fitter: CAN-Phantom · Pandora · Scorpion · Meta Trak

01 · Is this you?

Sounds familiar?

  • Every key is lost, stolen or broken beyond use
  • The only key has gone missing on a night out, a walk or a trip
  • Keys were taken in a burglary, or lost with anything showing your address
  • You've bought a used car that came with one key, and now that one's gone

Losing every key used to mean a recovery truck to the dealer and days without the car. Now the work comes to you: we open the car without damage if we need to, cut and program new keys at the vehicle, and test them before we leave.

The part that matters most is the last one. A lost key can still open and start the car, which matters if it went missing with your address. So once the new keys are working, the lost ones are removed from the car's memory and stop working for good.

02 · Quick quote

A key quote in a minute.

Your reg, the kind of key and what's happened. We'll check what your car needs and call or text you back with a fixed price.

Call-outs Mon–Sat 9am–5pm. We aim to be with you within an hour.

Which key does the car take?

We'll only use your details to reply. Keys are only made for the owner or registered keeper, so we'll ask to see the V5C and photo ID at the car.

03 · How it works

How it works.

  1. 01

    Tell us the car

Call, WhatsApp or send the form with the reg, make, model and year. We check what the car needs and come back with a fixed quote.

  2. 02

    Check ownership

At the car, we see the V5C logbook and photo ID before any work starts.

  3. 03

    Entry, if needed

If the car is locked, it's opened with specialist entry tools, without damage to the locks, doors or glass.

  4. 04

    New keys programmed

Keys are cut and programmed to the car, and every one is tested: locking, unlocking and starting.

  5. 05

    Old keys deleted

The lost keys are removed from the car's memory, so they can't be used if they turn up in the wrong hands.

04 · Right now

Lost your keys? Do this now.

  1. 01Check the obvious twice: coat pockets, the car's footwells and boot, the last shop you were in.
  2. 02If the keys may have been stolen, or were lost with anything showing your address, report it to the police on 101 and tell your insurer.
  3. 03Don't buy a second-hand key online: a used key usually can't be reprogrammed to another car.
  4. 04Find the V5C logbook and your driving licence. We'll need to see both.
  5. 05Send us the reg, or call. New keys are programmed at the car and the lost ones are removed from its memory, so if someone finds them, they can't use them.

05 · Before we start

What we'll need to see.

A key programmed to a car can start it, so we only make or program keys for the owner or registered keeper, and only once we've seen the paperwork. It's the check you'd want if it were your car and someone else was asking.
  • V5C logbook

Or another document naming you as the registered keeper, such as a finance or lease agreement for the car.

  • Photo ID

Driving licence or passport, with a name and address that match the ownership document.

  • Registration and VIN

The reg is enough to start. The 17-digit VIN (bottom of the windscreen, or on the V5C) lets us confirm exactly which key the car takes.

06 · Cost

A fixed price, first.

The price depends on the car and the key it takes, so it's worked out for yours: send the reg, or the make, model and year, and you'll get a fixed quote before anything is booked.

If you're claiming on insurance or key cover, ask for an itemised invoice with the vehicle details on it.

Before you enquire

Questions, answered.

01What if the V5C logbook is locked in the car?

Tell us when you get in touch. We can open the car first, and you show us the logbook and your ID before any key is programmed. If the logbook is lost too, a finance or lease agreement, or the insurance documents in your name, may do: ask and we'll say what we can accept.

02Should I get two keys made?

Usually, yes. Making a second key while we're already at the car is simpler than coming back for it, and it means losing one key in future isn't an emergency again.

03Will my insurance cover lost keys?

Some policies include key cover, or it's an add-on. Check your policy, and ask us for an itemised invoice for the claim.

04My keys were stolen. What should I do first?

Report it to the police on 101 and tell your insurer. Then get the stolen keys removed from the car's memory as soon as possible: until they are, whoever has them can open and start the car.
