Spare Car Keys

Down to one key? A spare is cut and programmed to the car at your home or work, so losing one key never becomes an emergency.
  • Fully insured
  • IMI Master Auto Locksmith
  • IMI CANBUS immobiliser fitting
  • Approved fitter: CAN-Phantom · Pandora · Scorpion · Meta Trak

01 · Is this you?

Sounds familiar?

  • The car came with only one key
  • The spare has been lost, or went with an ex, a relative or a sold car
  • The spare's remote has stopped working and you'd rather replace it
  • You'd like a key for another driver in the house

A spare costs far less, and is far less stress, than the day the only key goes missing. Many used cars come with a single key, and it's usually the first thing a new owner meant to sort out.

We cut and program the spare at the car, then test it alongside your existing key. If you've lost a spare rather than never having one, we can also remove the missing key from the car's memory at the same visit.

02 · Quick quote

A key quote in a minute.

Your reg, the kind of key and what's happened. We'll check what your car needs and call or text you back with a fixed price.

Call-outs Mon–Sat 9am–5pm. We aim to be with you within an hour.

Which key does the car take?

We'll only use your details to reply. Keys are only made for the owner or registered keeper, so we'll ask to see the V5C and photo ID at the car.

03 · How it works

How it works.

  1. 01

    Tell us the car

The reg, make, model and year, so the right key blank comes with us. You get a fixed quote first.

  2. 02

    Bring your key

Have your working key, the V5C logbook and photo ID with you at the car.

  3. 03

    Cut and program

The spare is cut to your car and programmed to it: the immobiliser chip and, for remote keys, the buttons.

  4. 04

    Both keys tested

Locking, unlocking and starting, on the new key and the old one, before we leave.

04 · Before we start

What we'll need to see.

A key programmed to a car can start it, so we only make or program keys for the owner or registered keeper, and only once we've seen the paperwork. It's the check you'd want if it were your car and someone else was asking.
  • V5C logbook

Or another document naming you as the registered keeper, such as a finance or lease agreement for the car.

  • Photo ID

Driving licence or passport, with a name and address that match the ownership document.

  • Registration and VIN

The reg is enough to start. The 17-digit VIN (bottom of the windscreen, or on the V5C) lets us confirm exactly which key the car takes.

05 · Cost

A fixed price, first.

The price depends on the car and the key it takes, so it's worked out for yours: send the reg, or the make, model and year, and you'll get a fixed quote before anything is booked.

If you're claiming on insurance or key cover, ask for an itemised invoice with the vehicle details on it.

Before you enquire

Questions, answered.

01Can you program a key I've bought online?

Sometimes, but ask first. Many keys sold online are used and already locked to another car, or aren't the right chip for yours, and a key that can't be programmed can't be sent back once it's cut. Tell us the listing and the car and we'll say whether it's worth buying.

02Will the buttons work on the spare?

Yes, for a remote key: the buttons are programmed as well as the immobiliser chip, and both are tested before we leave.

03Can you make a spare keyless fob?

For many cars, yes. Keyless fobs are programmed at the car in the same way. Tell us the reg and we'll confirm for yours.
