A Porsche parked on a drive in Knowle, Dorridge or Balsall Common is the kind of car many owners want tracked, and increasingly immobilised as well. One system that does both is Meta Trak's Deadlock E-TEC. But it isn't for every Porsche, and the reason why is worth understanding before you ask for a quote.
Why electronic theft is the concern
The law has caught up with the tools used to steal cars. The Crime and Policing Act 2026 created offences of possessing, making, adapting, importing or supplying electronic devices for vehicle theft, with a maximum penalty of five years in prison, an unlimited fine, or both. The government's factsheet cites Met Police data that electronic devices are used in about 60% of vehicle thefts in London, and Crime Survey data from 2019 to 2020 that signal manipulation was involved in 36% of vehicle thefts (GOV.UK factsheet). Thatcham Research welcomed the new offences, naming relay attack tools, CAN bus injection devices, signal jammers and emulators among the devices targeted (Insurance Edge).
Closer to home, Solihull's recorded vehicle offences fell 9.9% in the year ending March 2026 compared with the year before (ONS police force area data tables). That's welcome, but a fall in the overall count doesn't change the risk for a car that thieves specifically want.
How a push-to-start Porsche is targeted
At a high level, the methods are the ones used on most premium keyless cars: relay attacks on keyless entry, and electronic attacks through the car's wiring or diagnostic port. The common thread is that the car is persuaded a genuine key is present. That's why an extra check, one the thief doesn't have, is so useful.
What Deadlock E-TEC does
Meta Trak S5 Deadlock E-TEC is Meta Trak's newest tracker with immobilisation. It combines:
- Thatcham S5 tracking, listed by Meta Trak as insurance approved
- Driver recognition, using a tag you carry
- DEADLOCK immobilisation: no tag, no start
- 24/7 monitoring by a Secure Operating Centre that is NSI accredited and linked to police control rooms once a theft is reported
The subscription is Meta Trak's published £189.95 a year, or £499.95 for three years.
Which Porsches are on the list
Meta Trak publishes a Deadlock E-TEC compatibility list for push-to-start hybrids and electric vehicles. The version we work from (1.5.2, October 2025) includes push-to-start Porsche models, alongside Audi, BMW (including i and iX models), Bentley plug-in hybrids, Lamborghini, Mini Countryman (U25) and Rolls-Royce.
It is not compatible where the vehicle can be put into Drive without pressing the start button. Meta Trak names the Porsche Taycan and the electric Macan as examples, along with the Audi e-tron GT.
So the first question we ask a Porsche owner is simple: do you press a start button before selecting Drive? If yes, E-TEC may well be an option, subject to us checking your exact model and year against the list. If not, we'll look at other routes.
If your Porsche isn't on the list
A Taycan or electric Macan owner still has options:
- Meta Trak S5 VTS: Thatcham S5 tracking with a driver ID tag. Meta Trak says all its systems work with hybrid and electric vehicles.
- ScorpionTrack S5-VTS: Thatcham S5 with two driver-recognition tags, tracking across the UK, Ireland and Europe.
Both meet a policy that asks for S5. Our S5 or S7 guide explains the difference if your insurer has asked for S7 instead.
Porsche questions
Is Deadlock E-TEC the same as the standard Deadlock?
Both are Thatcham S5 trackers with DEADLOCK immobilisation and the same monitoring. E-TEC is the version Meta Trak lists for push-to-start hybrids and EVs, with its own approved-models list. We'll tell you which applies to your car.
Can my Porsche specialist still service the car?
Yes. The immobilisation is tied to your driver tag: with the tag present, the car starts and drives as normal. We'll talk through how servicing and garage visits work with your system before we fit it.
Will fitting it lower my premium?
We can't promise that. Your insurer's policy wording decides what counts and how it's treated. What we can do is match the system to the category they've asked for.
Check your Porsche
Send us your Porsche's model, year and, if you have it, the registration. We'll check it against the current E-TEC list, and if it isn't covered, suggest the S5 tracker that fits your policy wording. You'll have a fixed quote before anything is booked, and we come to the car.
